Diabetes is a metabolic disorder which leads to various other problems like hypertension, heart diseases, renal disoders to name a few.

Type 2 diabetes is a disease caused largely due to obesity and lack of exercise. According to researchers in South Korea, there has been an alarming rise in young people developing the disease. Sedentary lifestyles coupled with Fast food consumption is considered the major cause for the prevalence of this disease on such a large scale.

Asian countries like India and China are reported to have the greatest number of diabetic people in the world. WHO predicts that by 2025, these two nations would have around 20 million diabetics.

This is a matter of great concern because Type 2 diabetes in young people causes ill health and early death and hence this disease adversely affects the economy of these developing countries.

Health departments are greatly concerned because they are unable to control this epidemic. The percentage of obese children in asian countries has soared in the past few years. This is largely due to lifestyles which consists of no exercise, computers and TV, travel by cars and snacks rich in calories.

In developing nations like India, when an adult in a family with a low income has diabetes, much of it has to be spent on treatment which in turn affects the whole family.
